THE BOCAS DEL TORO BIOLOGICAL STATION ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodations. The Bocas del Toro Biological Station provides several housing options. Singles or couples, and small parties of 4-6 are provided private room or cabin accommodations with hot-water baths, ceiling fans and kitchenettes with gas stoves and refrigerators. Private rooms are ground level and have either hardwood or tile floors. Cabins are two story structures which have tile floors below and hardwood floors above. Cabins have terracotta tile porches and two balconies, one in front overlooking the sea and one in back overlooking the forest. Rooms and cabins are nicely appointed with drapes, unique wicker furniture, orthopedic beds, dressers, carpets and hardwood tables and closets. Groups larger than 5-6 may use the dormitory which consists of four rooms housing 5-10 people each. These rooms have fans, shared baths, hardwood floors, drapes, and screened windows. The station can accommodate groups up to 50 persons using both private and shared facilities.

Meals at the field station are excellent and are provided at our Yarisnori restaurant as part of the basic daily rate. Three meals are prepared daily, breakfast is at 7:30 am, lunch at noon, and dinner at 6:00 pm. Meals generally consist of a meat main course (fish, chicken, beef or pork), a salad, rice and beans, and plantains. Vegetarians are easily accommodated. Specialized foods, such as lobster, shrimp, etc., can also be special ordered. A freshly made tropical juice (orange, passion fruit, tamarindo, etc.) is served with each meal. Soft and alcoholic drinks are available but are not included. Filtered water is always available. A small store is maintained in the kitchen area that includes candy, cookies, chips, bottled water and other items. Our head cook, Juany Serracin, has been repeatedly recognized as one of Panama’s best chefs and she has been featured in many national television and magazine articles.
